2. Vick should definitely serve at LEAST 5 years in prison. I think it should be more like 10-15 years, I mean come on, drowning, shooting, hanging, and electrocuting dogs? If anybody killed a human, they would be in jail for 30 yrs-life. what is the difference here? Oh I forgot, theyre dogs, they dont have feelings or feel pain like humans do, right? It isnt as harsh a crime as killing a person right? WRONG! It is the same, its disgusting, its demented, and Vick should serve 10 years in prison, and NEVER be allowed to play football again. And he should do community service work? When a murderer of a human is sentenced to jail time, do they go work with the homeless? Or senior citizens? NO! Should Vick ever be allowed to be near an animal again? NOOO! This "community service" isnt going to help, hes a heartless loser, and I hope he gets what he deserves! No isolated cell away from everybody. I hope he is in a cell with a 400 pound pure muscle, animal loving man, who kicks his ass!!!!!

3. Give him a break. Lindsey Lohan and other celebrities are endangering plenty of innocent human beings when they drive drunk down the highways. Yet they get laughably short jail sentences, and usually only after multiple offenses.

While I'm a dog person, and don't condone Vick's actions, I think we need to keep the punishment in perspective, and separate the crime from our emotional reaction to it.

As far as his position in the NFL, it strikes me that most people have 40 year careers, but the career of an NFL player is very short. This conviction and suspension will already cost Vick a good portion of his career. The NFL doesn't toss people with drug problems at the first offense. I don't think a lifetime ban is warranted.

I just finished reading Jack London's Call of the Wild." Dogs worked hard in gold rush Alaska, and most were treated well because they needed to be able to work. But there were owners who treated dogs cruelly out of stupidity and inexperience. In London's book, the ability of Buck to be a great fighter was a key element in the story. How far we've come, where what was once thought of as heroic is now looked upon with horror. Yet my little cocker spaniel, after enjoying her dog-food dinner, still wants to attack every bird she sees on her walk. Cuddly as she is, there is a wild beas inside her.

5. I am very, very upset with Vick; however, I hope and pray that the NFL will give him another chance. He deserves at least 12-18 months in prison. Of course, alot of people think more of dogs than they think of humans of "color". We have people in the NRA (National Rifle Assoc.) that kill animals for "sport", but that is accepted. Vick made a horrible mistake, (it was stupid), but once he pays his debt to society, I say let him continue with his career. Don't hate him (which alot of you do)because this "person" is making all of that money and "HE" should not be able to. It all boils down also to jealousy. God Bless you Vick and I pray that you return and continue to be one of the "Best" quarterbacks of all time.

6. To comment about a remark by poster #3 Thehynie: What he did he did to himself. Just because an NFL career is shorter than non-athletic careers, that should not come into the equation when deciding the repercussions, and besides, they normally make more in their short career than us typical workers. I am disappointed that these athletes are being idolized and emulated by our youth (our youth don't idolize Nobel, Pulitzer Prize, nor Gairdner winners), so I feel the NFL (NHL, NBA, etc) is responsible for setting and enforcing a certain personal standard among their athletes. Not to do so just because an athlete's athletic career is short is a disservice to our youth. Set the standard, enforce it, and the athletes will toe the line so they don't have to give up their megabuck salaries.

7. i think m. vick deserves more time in jail and so do the others who was in co-horts with him. dog-fighting is not a sport like they seem to think.
i dont think he should get a 2nd chance at the nfl, that's a once in a life time thing and he blew his chance.
as for the little white girls aka lohan, paris and brittany. they deserve jail time too, if they were poor white girls they would have went to jail.
anyone with money who does any type of crime should go to jail and not get special treatment.
killing dogs, torturing them is so wrong in so many ways. they all knew what they were doing and they deserve all they get and i hope they pay...big time!!
as for the dogs they took from vick's place, i seen them on tv all they want is love and they never got it.
they had these very huge and heavy log chains and collers around their poor little necks. makes me sick anyone would treat an animal that way.

8. There is no reason for this dude to get that many years in prison. Paris hilton has DUI's coming out of her rear end and she only got a month in jail and only served 2 weeks. Lindsey Lohan got caught not once but TWICE with drug possesion and got ONE DAY IN JAIL. SO there is no way im gonna stand here and let anyone tell me he deserves 5 years. Maybe a large fine or a couple months in jail but not 5 years. Come on people weve seen paris, nicole and lindsey get in to so much trouble and they got multiple chances to continue with their lives why not give vick a chance to continue with his hes sorry he learned his lesson.

9. I think prison time should be imposed and sometype of suspesion from the NFL, but after that, leave him be. People hunt animals and fight other animals, you think bulls, pigs, cows and horses want to be treated the way they are.....Nope, but just becuase he is a superstar and what he represents people want to throw him out into the fire. What about Martha Stewart, she only got a year and people felt sorry for her she gets out of jail and people appraises her. Its wrong all wrong

10. People keep citing other celebrities and their ability to avoid jail time. That's ridiculous. Just because people think Michael Vick deserves to be punished doesn't mean they've ignored Lohan, Hilton, and others. They -should- have been punished much more severely. As it's said, two wrongs do not make a right. Just because these women have escaped punishment (unjustly), doesn't mean Vick should.

If he had any kind of brain, he would have put his funds into something more productive (and humane) than dogfighting. It doesn't matter that he didn't gamble or receive moneys from winnings. He KNEW about it and FUNDED the operation. That's guilt to me. Not to mention, oh, he admitted to killing dogs?

He's just another celebrity that figured he wouldn't get caught and/or penalized, and that's not acceptable. "Sorry" and "I've found Jesus" doesn't equate, in my mind, to letting someone return unscathed to raking in millions of dollars a year. I don't think the NFL should allow him to play, but I'm pretty sure they will. Unfortunately, it's the money that really ever does the talking.

11. This is not about an "emotional reaction". What Michael Vick has personally done or been a part of is vicious. It is evil. It is cruel. Someone who could stomach seeing a dog hung and fighting for his life, simply because it wasn't mean enough, is a monster. A man who could cut down the dogs who didn't die and drown them..That man is a beast. It's like the boys who put the puppy in the oven..or the girls who lit the kitten on fire. All of these things are so horrible for the victim(and it's not a silent suffering; It would be impossible for the abuser to deny)..anyone who would inflict such pain, and could stand to watch such torture..Should be locked away forever. But, we can at least give him a harsh sentence and TRY to teach him a lesson.

12. I knew of people in High School that went "Coonbashing" ~killing raccoons with baseball bats and golf clubs (we are talking hundreds of raccons and other various critters). All they got was a manatory letter to the DNR appoligizing for their actions. Although I do not condon their actions and I think it was gross. I feel our justice system isn't consistent. What ever sentence they give Vick should be a presidence for the future and a repeat of the past. A UPS man was speeding down my road and hit and killed my dog. According to the definitions of reckless driving he would have been found intentional homicide but he drove off as if nothing happened. I know life isn't fair but I do believe that people want Vick to suffer not just recieve a punishment and for that they are worse of a human than Vick.

14. Vick should get the appropriate sentence relative to the sentence of others who committed the same crime. Vicks action cannot be equated with murder, only the stupid and uneducated think so. My law school Prof. always screamed out that you have to have a HUMAN body in order for murder to be charged. Period...... No dead human, no MURDER. So let's grow up a bit. Also if you are so angry about dogs being killed then stop the local pounds from killing millions of dogs and cats yearly. There are people playing in the NFL (also in the past) who killed PEOPLE (through negligence, vehicular homicide) or witnessed people being MURDERED and obstructed justice to boot! Neither of these folks did any meaningful time and were allowed back into the league (also NHL) immediately. Stop the holier than though rhetoric, the person in the stall next to you is going to tell the Police of your advances - Perverts!

It wasn't right killing 8 dogs (or maybe more) because they didn't "perform" up to there potential. Dogs aren't clowns they aren't suppose 2 perform, they are a humans best friend. Not a humans entertainer. I'm not a fan of pit bulls, but they don't deserve to be shot, hung, stabbed or harmed in anyway. They r still God's creatures. Vick is an embarrasement to the NFL, and i agree with the A.H.A. How does someone not know whats going on in thier own house. If you're not aware of whats going down in your own house then maybe he shouldn't be a home owner. And he shouldn't be allowed 2 EVER own pets EVER AGAIN. He has violated the right of owning a dog, fish, cat, parrot, rat, guinea pig, hamster, snake, turtle or even a freakin lizard. HE DESERVES THE MAXIMUM PUNISHMENT. GIV THE ASSHOLE 10-15 YEARS!!!

18. i used to step on ants when i was a kid. I actually used bug poison to kill some cock roaches the other day in my kitchen. Should I also be sentenced to 10-15 years in prison for killing animals in humanely? & What about people who eat meat, which is most of us, should be be sentenced to prison, after all, cattle are killed in humanely as well.

20. I think that Michale Vick should be let off with short prison time. I think this because everyone needs a second chance we all make mistakes it just human. There has been a time in your life when you made a big mistake and wanted a second chance but you did not get it. How can you think that you deserve a second chance if you cant even give someone else a second chance. So think of that next time you make a mistake. Michael Vick knows what he did was wrong and probably feels horrible about it so and now all he ask of us is for a second chance to prove he can be a better person than he was in the past hes not asking to be a better football player. He is simply asking to become a better person and if we cant offer him that then how will he have the chance to change if we do not give him the opportunity to change.
