Taking their morning constitutional though the snow, Kitteninstitches' Romanov ram, Alex and his faithful feline friend, Lazarus, share some quality time together.
I think they make an adorable pair, don't you?

Alex, a Romanov ram that owns Julia, aka DBDustbuny is quite the holiday shutter-bug. He loves to dress up in his Santa outfit to spread season's greetings to all his animal loving fans.
While Alex has an extensive vocabulary to communicate joyful best wishes to everyone, he would never be caught saying, "baaaaa humbug."
Isn't he handsome? Don't be sheepish or shy. Even if he doens't need it, please leave a comment to stroke Alex's ego.

Many years ago, my good online buddy Kim donated time to a nearby shelter. A few of the resident animals were not tamed so her chosen task was to help socialize them to make them more adoptable.
One day Kim spied the shelter's resident rooster, Old Bisbee Red, being chased by a man with a pipe, wearing welding gloves. When Kim asked him why he doing that, he replied that he "was going to turn him into a fighting cock." Kim grabbed Bisbee and took him home immediately.
Fostered by her friend Bonnie, (above) who had a variety of critters, he was eventually donated to a nearby petting zoo where he is well fed, lovingly cared for and doted upon by lots of children
I love happy endings, don't you? Let us know by leaving a comment.
Angel's Gate Hospice for Animals is one of my favorite animal welfare organizations. I have been following their events for over a year. I admire the tenacity and courage that they demonstrate, even in the face of adversity and challenges presented by the town in which they are located.
This highly specialized shelter, hospice and rescue facility presently located in Fort Solonga on Long Island, opened their doors over 13 years ago to provide a forever loving home for special needs animals. Many of their residents are disabled or dealing with serious illness. But with the tender care that Angel's Gate is providing, these animals will live out their lives surrounded with love.
"Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace." This poignant sentiment written by Albert Schweitzer is the theme Angel's Gate Hospice for Animals adopted to represent the compassionate work that they do to help animals relinquished by people no longer able to take care of them due to their pet's extensive illness or handicaps.
It has not been an easy road for Angel's Gate. Challenged by neighbors who beset them with accusations of heavy traffic, delivery trucks coming and going day and night, and extensive garbage which blighted the neighborhood, they were in imminent danger of having their doors closed.

The weather around here (northern Delaware) has been flawless lately, and Sunday a neighbor and I took advantage of it with a girls' day out. We spent the morning at our favorite flea market in New Castle, then headed over to Milburn Orchards in Elkton, Maryland. We thought we'd get some apples, but instead ended up with raspberries, Concord grapes ... and lots of animal pictures! Click on any photo below to see all the critters we met.
The next time you get someone's goat or feel totally sheepish, you might think of my cat-loving friend DBDustbuny's kitty Lazarus and his bovid companions. It seems Lazarus enjoys forming relationships outside his own species. Case in point: Here he shares a classic head butt with his lamb friend Matty.

Alex, a very patriotic sheep, gives Lazarus a ride.

Summer is county fair season! We went to a small-town fair recently and had a blast. It was in a town that's home to a store called Bait & Grocery, and is small enough for the newspaper to print the married and maiden names of any women appearing in it, from newlywed to grandma. Love it! Click any picture below to visit the photo gallery and take in some of the sights ...
We've been sharing tales of dogs who love the water (and dogs who aren't quite sure) -- here's one more contribution to the summer fun: A video by borchick51 of a girl, her dogs and ... something a little different lurking around the side of the house!
I was privileged to spend this past weekend in the company of about a thousand animal advocates and activists at the Taking Action for Animals conference in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by several leading animal protection organizations and other groups, this year's conference focused mainly on the treatment of farm animals -- although speakers covered everything from dogfighting to tiger-bone wine.

There is a wide range of dates that have been set aside as Cow Appreciation Day. While the actual date of the celebration may be as early as July 13 ... or maybe the 15th ... or possibly the 28th ... it appears that cows are udderly appreciated. So let's take a moment and reflect on these moovelous critters as you enjoy your chocolate milk, ice-cream and delicious cheese.
A month ago, Friday was not so fortunate. His head had become impaled on a fish hook, and a line wrapped around his throat. He was in deep trouble.

However two friends, Anne and Hugh, discovered him in a lake in their back yard. With patience and care, they were able to remove the hook and disentangle him from the line. They took him into the house to try to save this little guy.
